To install the Sloan 3301038 3.5 GPF General Repair Kit, follow these steps:
1. Before installation, make sure you have the necessary plumbing in place, including a closet or urinal fixture, drain line, and water supply line. Ensure that all plumbing is installed according to applicable codes and regulations.
2. The water supply lines must be sized to provide an adequate volume of water for each fixture. Flush all water lines prior to making connections.
3. Sloan's flushometers are designed to operate with 10 to 100 psi of water pressure. The minimum pressure required for the valve depends on the type of fixture selected. Consult the fixture manufacturer for the minimum pressure requirements.
4. Tools required for installation include a straight blade screwdriver and a Sloan A-50 Super-Wrench, Sloan A-109 Plier Wrench, or a smooth jawed spud wrench.
5. If your supply pipe does not have a male thread, you will need to install a sweat solder adapter. Measure from the finished wall to the centerline of the fixture spud and cut the pipe 1/4 inch shorter than this measurement. Chamfer the outer and inner diameter of the water supply pipe. Slide the threaded adapter fully onto the pipe and sweat solder the adapter to the pipe.
6. Install the cover tube, wall flange, and control stop to the supply pipe. Measure from the finished wall to the first thread of the adapter or threaded supply pipe and cut the cover tube to this length. Slide the cover tube over the pipe and slide the wall flange over the cover tube until it is against the wall. Thread the control stop onto the pipe and tighten it with a wrench. Tighten the setscrew on the cover tube with a 1/16" hex wrench. Do not install the vandal-resistant plug at this time.
7. Slide the spud coupling, nylon slip gasket, rubber gasket, and spud flange over the vacuum breaker tube. Insert the tube into the fixture spud and hand tighten the spud coupling onto the fixture spud.
8. Install the flushometer and handle assembly. Lubricate the tailpiece O-ring with water and insert the adjustable tailpiece into the control stop. Tighten the tailpiece coupling by hand. Align the flushometer directly above the vacuum breaker flush connection by sliding the flushometer body in or out as needed. Tighten the vacuum breaker coupling by hand. Align the flushometer body and securely tighten the couplings in the order given: tailpiece coupling, vacuum breaker coupling, and spud coupling. Install the red A-31 handle gasket on the handle assembly and insert the ADA handle assembly into the handle opening in the flushometer body. Securely tighten the handle coupling with a wrench.
9. Flush out the supply line. Make sure the control stop is closed and remove the flushometer outer cover. Remove the inside cover and lift out the inside parts assembly. Reinstall the outside and inside covers wrench tight. Open the control stop to flush the supply line, then close the control stop and remove the outside and inside covers. Reinstall the inside parts assembly, inside cover, and outside cover wrench tight.
10. Adjust the control stop and install the plug. Open the control stop counterclockwise one full turn from the closed position. Activate the flushometer and adjust the control stop after each flush until the rate of flow delivered properly cleanses the fixture. Install the plug into the control stop by pressing it into the bonnet.
