To set up a Turnitin Assignment in Blackboard, follow these steps:
1. Access your Blackboard Course Unit via My Manchester in the usual way.
2. Navigate to the area or folder where you wish to create your Turnitin Assignment link. It is recommended to create it in a folder or area specifically for assessments and include links to the Turnitin student guides.
3. Make sure that the edit mode is switched on.
4. Click on "Build Content" and select "Turnitin Assignment (Current)" from the menu.
5. On the New Assignment form, enter the required information:
- Assignment title: Enter the title of the assignment.
- Instructions for the student: Provide clear instructions for the students, including submission title requirements (e.g., student ID number and essay name).
- Max Grade: Set a point value for the assignment (typically use 100).
- Start date: Specify the date when students can begin submitting.
- Due date: Set the assignment deadline. Note that Turnitin applies deadlines to the second, so it is recommended to set the deadline one minute past the actual deadline to avoid any discrepancies.
- Feedback Release Date: This is the date when feedback and marks generated using GradeMark will be published to students via Blackboard.
6. Optional Settings:
- Click on "Optional Settings" to access additional settings.
- Submit papers to the 'Standard paper repository' unless it is a dummy test assignment.
- Allow submission of any file type or restrict submissions to file types that Turnitin can produce an originality report for.
- Allow late submissions to easily identify when a submission was made and accept submissions from students who require an extended deadline.
- Enable anonymous marking to comply with current University regulations.
- Enable translated matching to generate a separate similarity report based on English translations of non-English language submissions.
- Enable grammar checking to provide feedback marks for grammar and other writing traits.
- Attach a rubric if available.
7. Similarity Reports:
- Compare against: Accept all search options.
- Generate Reports on due date to allow students to re-submit until the due date without generating multiple originality reports.
- Do not allow students to see Originality Reports as per University requirements.
- Exclude bibliographic materials, quoted materials, or small sources if desired.
8. Click "Submit" to create the Turnitin assignment.
9. Go to Grade Centre to check that the Grade Centre column is not visible to students. If it is visible, amend the setting from the dropdown list.
10. Click the link to access the assignment inbox.
11. Use the refresh button to refresh inbox data. Assignment settings can be edited using the settings cog in the top right corner.
