To install the Ford F-150 Trailer Brake Control Module, follow the steps outlined below:
1. Ensure that you have the correct Trailer Module (TRM) from the kit. It is necessary to replace the existing TRM with the one provided in the kit to avoid configuration errors.
2. Open the Ford Diagnostic Repair System (FDRS) and identify your vehicle.
3. Go to the Toolbox and select Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).
4. Check if there are any software updates available for the IPC. If an update is available, proceed with updating the IPC.
5. Download and run the IPC-Towbar Configuration.
6. Select "Fixed Towbar" and choose a genuine module (Ford) when prompted.
7. Follow the on-screen prompts to select the liftgate type and complete the configuration process.
8. After successful completion, select "Exit" to end the configuration.
9. Next, select Body Control Module (BCM) and choose BCM-Towbar Configuration.
10. Verify that your vehicle is built without a Class IV trailer tow and select "Yes" when prompted.
11. Select "Fixed Towbar" and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the programming.
12. After successful completion, select "Exit" to end the configuration.
13. Scan and clear any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that may be present.
14. Validate the installation by checking if the trailer gain is present or if a message indicating "Trailer Disconnected" is displayed in the IPC when the TBC switch is pressed.
15. To initialize the towing menu on the SYNC screen, turn off the vehicle and manually set the lights to off. The menu will then appear when the vehicle's ignition is on after connecting a trailer.
