To connect the phocos CIS-N-MPPT 100-30 MPPT Solar Charge Controller to your PV system, follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the PV (solar) modules from the charge controller before installing or working on the PV system to prevent any damage to the charge controller.
2. Verify that all cable/wire connections are done properly and well insulated to avoid any bad or loose connections that could result in excessive heating or further damage.
3. Install a fuse or breaker near the battery before installing or adjusting the controller.
4. Connect the wires in the indicated order:
- Negative battery terminal (COMMON -) to the negative terminal of the battery.
- Positive battery terminal (BATTERY +) to the positive terminal of the battery.
- Negative panel terminal (COMMON -) to the negative terminal of the PV panel.
- Positive panel terminal (SOLAR +) to the positive terminal of the PV panel.
- Negative load terminal (COMMON -) to the negative terminal of the load.
- Positive load terminal (LOAD +) to the positive terminal of the load.
- Dimming signal terminal (N/A) - this terminal is not used.
5. Ensure that the wire length between the battery and controller is as short as possible.
6. If any grounding is required further to the casing, always do this on the negative wires.
7. Ground the casing by connecting it to the grounding post on the left side.
8. The controller should be installed on a non-flammable surface only, as it warms up during operation.
9. When connecting inductive loads (motors, relays, etc.), a freewheel diode must be connected in parallel to the loads in the reverse-biased direction.
10. Inverters should always be connected directly to the battery due to their high inrush currents.
