To connect the Phocos ECO-N-MPPT 85/15 Solar Charge Controller to your solar panels, battery, and load, please follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the PV (solar) modules from the charge controller before installing or working on the PV system to prevent any damage to the charge controller.
2. Verify that all cable/wire connections are done properly and are well insulated to avoid any bad or loose connections that could result in excessive heating or further damage. Make sure no water or humidity can ingress.
3. Install a fuse or breaker near the battery before installing or adjusting the controller.
4. Connect the wires in the indicated order (1 2 3 4 5 6) to avoid any installation faults.
5. To avoid any damaging voltage on the wires, first connect the wire to the controller, then to the battery, panel, or load.
6. Use a minimum recommended wire size of 4 mm².
7. Ensure that the wire length between the battery and the controller is as short as possible.
8. Be aware that the negative terminals of the ECO-N-MPPT 85/15 are connected together and therefore have the same electrical potential. If any grounding is required, always do this on the negative wires.
9. When connecting inductive loads (motors, relays, etc.), connect a freewheel diode in parallel to the loads in the reverse-biased direction.
10. Inverters should always be connected directly to the battery due to their high inrush currents.
11. The MXI communication cable can optionally be used together with a Phocos MXI or MXI232 accessory, sold separately.
12. The temperature sensor cable should be left hanging on the charge controller to accurately measure the ambient temperature, but not touching the charge controller at its end.
