To set up the Polk Audio FX Wireless Surround Speaker System, follow these steps:
1. Transmitter Placement: Place the transmitter in proximity to the receiver or preamp based on cable length. Avoid placing the transmitter directly on top of the receiver or DVD player. Connect the power supply and plug it into an outlet. The LED on the transmitter will glow red until a connection with the speaker is established. Connect the 5.1 or 7.1 line level surround outputs from the receiver or preamp to the corresponding inputs on the transmitter.
2. Speaker Placement: Place the F/X Wireless Surround loudspeaker behind the listening area with the long axis of the speaker facing the back. The amplifier input has arrows indicating the proper left/right channel orientation. The speaker can be placed on the floor, table, or shelf. Connect the in-line power supply and turn on the AC mains. Press the room position button to select floor, table, or shelf depending on your desired location. The orange LED will switch accordingly. Push the scan button to establish a connection with the transmitter. The scan LED will turn from red to blue once the connection is established.
3. System Calibration: Adjust the gain of the surround channels to match or slightly exceed the sound levels of the front stage. Set the surround back channels to match the gain setting determined for the surround channels. To calibrate the distance, measure the approximate distance from the speaker system to the nearest side walls for surround distance, and measure the distance from the speaker system to the listening position for surround back distance. Refer to the provided tables in the manual to determine the appropriate distance settings based on your room's dimensions and loudspeaker placement.
4. System Description: The Polk Audio FX Wireless Surround Speaker System features a tri-chamber design with individually isolated left channel, right channel, and ported woofer sections. The enclosure is constructed of 3/4" MDF for solid density and rigidity. The speaker system incorporates Polk Audio's Dynamic Balance technology to minimize resonances for natural midrange and low-frequency reproduction. It also includes a 120 Watt multi-channel class D digital amplifier with DSP for frequency optimization and overload protection.
