To properly install the PENTAIR HV200 Series Grinder Pump in a sump, follow these steps:
1. Before installing the pump, make sure the impeller turns freely by rotating it manually. If it is stuck, use a small bar or screwdriver to break it loose.
2. Clean the sump of any trash or debris and connect the pump to the piping. Install a check valve on each pump.
3. If you are installing the pump in an existing basin or concrete sump, you can either permanently connect the piping or use rails and brackets to mount the pump to the walls of the basin. Ensure that the pumps are submerged in a vertical position and use a Hydromatic solids handling ball check valve.
4. Make sure all electrical wiring is done in accordance with local codes by a qualified electrician. Check all wires for shorts to ground using an ohmmeter or Megger.
5. If using a Hydromatic control panel, connect the heat sensor and seal failure connections to the provided terminal blocks. If using a control panel from another supplier, ensure it allows for these connections.
6. Install the sump level control float controls. Set the lower or turn-off control to maintain a minimum level in the sump, no more than 3 1/4" from the top of the motor housing down to the surface of the sewage. Set the upper or turn-on control above the lower turn-off control. The exact distance between the two floats should be determined by an engineer or consulting engineer based on the application conditions.
7. Once the pump is installed, check the rotation of the impeller. Lift the pump from the sump, lay it down, and quickly turn the pump on and then off. The impeller should turn counter-clockwise when viewed from the suction. If the rotation is wrong, turn off the main breaker and interchange any two lines that lead to the motor to correct the rotation.
8. Run water into the sump until the motor is covered. Open the gate valve in the discharge line.
9. Turn on the pump. If the pump runs but the sump liquid does not pump down, stop the pump and close the discharge gate valve. Lift the pump to vent off trapped air by opening the sealing flange. Lower the pump, open the discharge valve, and start the pump again.
10. If the pump is still not operating properly, check the level controls and ensure the ground wire is connected to a good ground.
Please note that these are general installation guidelines. For more specific instructions and details, refer to the PENTAIR HV200 Series Grinder Pumps Instruction Manual.
