To install the Bel-Aire Trion 348818-001A Power Supply Retrofit inside a White-Rodgers power box, follow these steps:
1. Jump Terminals J6 and J7: Connect a wire or connector between Terminals J6 and J7 on the power supply board.
2. Bypass the Air Flow Sensor: Move the jumper on the JP9 terminal to the "D" position to bypass the onboard air flow sensor of the Trion power supply.
3. Connect Ground: The power supply needs to share the same ground as the chassis. Locate the mounting hole on the bottom right of the board, which serves as the ground connection. Solder the ground wire or connector to this hole.
4. Connect Indicator Light: Remove the indicator red LED light from the power supply board. Solder the original indicator light (F844-0130) found on the power box to the Trion power supply terminal D1, where the red lead was previously removed.
5. Modify Power Source (if necessary): If the original power box had an internal air flow sensor, discard it and the associated wires. Find your 120V power source. One option is to tap into the blower power wire as a 120V source. Another option is to use a general 120V current sensing relay, such as the Aprilaire relay 51, to sense the current on the blower common wire.
6. Perform a Stand-Alone Test: Plug the power box into a 120V outlet to perform a control test. The indicator light should turn on and stay solid, indicating that the power supply is outputting voltage normally. This test helps identify any unusual behavior that may only be detected with a working power supply.
7. Troubleshooting: If there is sparking during the initial run, it should stop after a while. If the indicator light stays solid, the power supply is working normally. If there is an ozone metallic-like smell, it is normal and should dissipate. However, if an ozone smell is detected in the living area, follow the instructions below to reduce the output voltage:
a. Locate jumper terminal JP1 and change the jumper setting from HIGH to MED (L) or LOW (L).
b. If the air cleaner sparks non-stop or an ozone smell persists, inspect the cells for broken ionizing wires or bent plates. You can perform a bench test with the power box and cells using jumper cables to detect short locations.
Please note that the above instructions are based on the information provided in the Bel-Aire Trion 348818-001A Power Supply Retrofit Instruction Manual.
