Cleaning the Hamilton Beach 49949 FlexBrew Single-Serve Coffee Maker is essential for maintaining its performance and ensuring the quality of your coffee. Here is the recommended cleaning procedure:
1. Unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool before cleaning.
2. All removable parts of the coffee maker are dishwasher safe and can be placed in the top rack of the dishwasher. However, do not use the "SANI" setting as it may damage the product. Alternatively, you can wash the parts by hand in hot, soapy water, rinse, and dry them thoroughly.
3. Wash the Milk Frother Lid and Whisk in hot, soapy water, rinse, and dry them.
4. Hand-wash the inside of the Milk Frother with hot, soapy water, rinse, and dry it thoroughly.
5. Wipe the outside of the coffee maker and Milk Frother with a soft, damp cloth.
6. To perform routine cleaning of the coffee maker, follow these steps:
a. Plug the coffee maker into an outlet.
b. Pour 3/4 cup (177 ml) of plain white vinegar and 3/4 cup (177 ml) of cold water into the Water Reservoir.
c. Place a 14-oz. (414-ml) or larger cup or travel mug under the coffee maker to catch the water-vinegar solution.
d. Press the BREW REG or BREW BOLD button once to start the brewing process. When the solution starts dispensing, press the button again to stop brewing and allow the vinegar to clean the coffee maker. Let the solution sit for 30 minutes.
e. After 30 minutes, press the BREW REG or BREW BOLD button again and allow the coffee maker to complete the brew cycle.
f. Empty the cup and rinse it. Run 2 to 3 cycles of cold tap water through the coffee maker to rinse it thoroughly. The coffee maker is now cleaned and ready to brew coffee.
7. If the piercing needle becomes clogged, remove the Gray Removable Needle Holder in the Lid by turning the arrow from the locked icon to the unlocked icon. Use a small paper clip to insert the tip through the hole of the piercing needle and up into the shaft to remove any grounds that may be causing the clog. Replace the Gray Removable Needle Holder by inserting a tab between the lock icon and unlock icon and turning it to the right to lock it into place.
8. After cleaning, the coffee maker is ready for use again.
Regular cleaning, including descaling with vinegar, is recommended at least once a month (or once a week for areas with hard water) to keep your coffee maker in optimal condition and ensure the best-tasting coffee.
