To install the OVS-2181 Modern 1.28 GPF One Piece Toilet, follow these steps:
1. Remove the old toilet (if applicable):
- Close the toilet supply valve and flush the tank completely.
- Use a towel or sponge to remove any remaining water from the tank and bowl.
- Disconnect and remove the supply line. If you are replacing the valve, shut off the main water supply first.
- Remove the old mounting hardware and the toilet itself.
- Plug the floor waste opening to prevent sewer gases from escaping.
- Remove the closet bolts from the flange and clean the base area from any old wax or putty.
2. Prepare the mounting surface:
- Ensure that the mounting surface is clean and level before installing the new toilet.
- The distance from the wall to the closet flange centerline (rough-in) must be a minimum of 12 inches (305 mm).
3. Install closet bolts:
- Insert the closet bolts into the flange channel and turn them 90 degrees.
- Slide the bolts into place, approximately 6 inches (152 mm) apart and parallel to the wall.
4. Install the wax ring:
- Invert the toilet on the floor (use a cushion to prevent damage).
- Install the wax ring evenly around the waste flange (horn), with the tapered end of the ring facing the toilet.
- Apply a thin bead of sealant around the base flange.
5. Install the toilet:
- Position the toilet squarely against the wall.
- With a rocking motion, press the bowl down fully onto the wax ring and flange.
- Alternately tighten the nuts on the closet bolts until the toilet is firmly seated on the floor.
- Caution: Do not overtighten the nuts as it may damage the base.
6. Connect the water supply:
- Connect the water supply line between the shut-off valve and the tank water inlet fitting.
- Tighten the coupling nuts securely.
- Turn on the supply valve and allow the tank to fill until the float rises to the shutoff position.
- Check for any leakage at the fittings and tighten or correct as needed.
7. Install the toilet seat:
- Install the toilet seat in accordance with the enclosed directions.
