To remove the stock exhaust system and install the Flowmaster 717972 FlowFX Extreme Cat-Back Exhaust System on your Toyota 4Runner, follow these steps:
1. Raise your vehicle up on a hoist or rack to a working height. If you don't have access to a hoist or rack, use jack stands to support the vehicle.
2. Allow your vehicle to cool completely before touching any factory engine components to avoid serious burns.
3. Apply penetrang lubricant to mounts, bolts, and clamps before removing them to ease preparation and installation of the new kit.
4. Use stands as necessary to support parts as you detach them from your vehicle and again as you install new parts.
5. Remove the bolts from the flange between the tailpipe and muffler. Disassemble the hanger wires from the isolators and remove the tailpipe section from the vehicle.
6. Support the muffler and disassemble the wire hangers from the isolators. Remove and retain the fasteners from the flange connecting the muffler to the inlet, then remove the muffler section from the vehicle.
Once you have successfully removed the stock exhaust system, you can proceed with the installation of the Flowmaster 717972 FlowFX Extreme Cat-Back Exhaust System by following the instructions provided in the manual.
