To remove the door panel and install the soundskins SSK-RAP4DRV2 Truck Door Kit, follow these steps:
1. Start by locating the fastening hardware on the door panel. Use the appropriate screwdriver to remove all the screws.
2. Once all the screws are removed, use a panel tool to carefully pry off the door panel. Be cautious not to break any of the clips or mounting hardware. Slowly pull the panel away and unplug any electrical connections if necessary.
3. After removing the door panel, you are ready to prep the metal surface. Use a microfiber cloth and acetone or a cleaning solution to wipe away any moisture, oil, debris, or other contaminants. Allow the surface to air dry for an appropriate amount of time. The goal is to ensure a clean surface for proper material glue contact.
4. Once the surface is dry and clean, locate the piece of the soundskins kit with the label on the back that corresponds to the door you are working on. Ensure it lines up correctly before removing the backing paper. After confirming the right piece, peel off the backing paper and apply the material starting from the top and working your way down. Use a roller to ensure the material is firmly pressed down and no air is trapped. If any air is trapped, use a razor blade or household needle to release it. Repeat these steps for all door panels.
5. To accommodate the car speaker hole, press down firmly on the area and locate the speaker wire. Use a razor blade to cut around the speaker hole, being careful not to cut the wire harness. Take the piece you just cut out and stick it behind the speaker hole on the outer door skin to act as a back wave. Score the area where the wire harness is with your blade and tuck the harness between the two flaps. Finally, plug in your speaker.
6. Now you can place the door panel back on your door. Ensure all necessary openings are available after applying the Sound Skins material. Secure the door panel with all the screws and you are ready to hit the road!
