To check if the surge protector is providing surge protection, periodically check the red "Protected" indicator light. If the light is glowing red, it means that surge protection is being provided. However, if the red "PROTECTED" indicator light stops glowing, it indicates that the surge protective components have expired and the surge protector should be replaced. The surge protector features internal protection that disconnects the surge protective component at the end of its useful life but maintains power to the outlets, which are now unprotected. Therefore, if the indicator light goes out, the unit will no longer provide surge protection as intended and should be replaced.
