To clean the Hamilton Beach 40864 1.7L Electric Tea Kettle, follow these steps:
1. Unplug the kettle and allow it to cool.
2. Empty any remaining water from the kettle.
3. Remove the mesh filter by pulling up on the filter tab visible through the kettle opening.
4. Rinse the filter with clean water.
5. To remove discoloration or scale/lime deposits from the heating element, add 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) of cream of tartar to the kettle.
6. Fill the kettle halfway with water.
7. Plug the kettle into an outlet and press the START/STOP button to bring the water to a boil.
8. Press the STOP button and unplug the kettle.
9. Allow the kettle to cool.
10. Rinse the kettle several times with clean tap water.
Note: Do not immerse the kettle, power base, or plug in water or any other liquid. Avoid using abrasive scouring pads or powders, as they may scratch the kettle's surface.
