To condition the nonstick cooking surfaces before first use of BLACK+DECKER WMB500 Belgian Waffle Maker, follow these steps:
1. Make sure the unit is unplugged and completely cool.
2. Lightly coat the cooking surfaces with a light coating of cooking oil. Do not use nonstick cooking spray.
3. Brush the oil onto the cooking surfaces or wipe it on with a paper towel, making sure to coat the surfaces evenly.
4. Wipe off any excess oil with paper towels.
5. The first waffle you make may have a greasy, blotchy appearance due to the excess oil. Discard this waffle.
6. Subsequent waffles will turn out better.
Note: Do not pour batter onto the cooking surfaces until after conditioning them with oil.
