Cleaning the Bodum 11451 Electric Water Kettle is important to maintain its performance and prolong its lifespan. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to clean the kettle:
1. Regular Cleaning:
- Wipe the exterior of the kettle with a damp cloth to remove any splatters or residue.
- Dry the kettle thoroughly with a soft cloth.
- Do not immerse the kettle in water or use abrasive agents to clean the exterior.
2. Descaling:
- Scale, or calcium, can build up inside the kettle over time. To remove scale, you can use a descaling solution suitable for plastic kettles or citric acid.
- For descaling with citric acid, boil 0.5l/17oz of water in the kettle.
- Unplug the kettle and place it in an empty sink or bowl.
- Gradually add 25g of citric acid crystals to the kettle and let it stand.
- Once the effervescence subsides, empty the kettle and rinse it thoroughly with cold water.
- Wipe the outside of the kettle with a damp cloth to remove any citric acid residue.
- Ensure that the kettle is completely dry before using it again.
3. Filter Cleaning:
- The scale filter in the kettle can be removed for cleaning.
- Pull the filter upwards from the body of the kettle.
- Clean the filter by gently brushing it with a soft brush under running water.
- Once cleaned, reattach the filter to the kettle by clipping it back into place.
Note: It is recommended to descale the kettle every four to eight weeks to prevent scale buildup. Avoid using chemicals, steel wool, or abrasive agents for cleaning.
