To clean the Hamilton Beach 40880 Water Boiler & Heater Kettle, follow these steps:
1. Empty the kettle after each use to avoid scale or lime deposit buildup.
2. Wipe the exterior of the kettle with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or powders as they may scratch the surface.
3. To remove discoloration or scale/lime deposit from the heating element, follow these steps:
a. Place 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar (available in the spice aisle of a grocery store) into the kettle.
b. Fill the kettle halfway with water.
c. Plug in the kettle, turn it ON (I), and bring it to a boil.
d. Turn OFF ( ) and let the kettle cool.
e. Rinse the kettle several times with clean tap water.
4. Do not immerse the kettle, power base, or plug in water or any other liquid.
5. If the kettle floor discolors, it is normal for stainless steel heating elements and does not affect the performance of the kettle. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or cleaners as they may damage the stainless steel surface.
6. If the kettle boils dry, it is protected by automatic safety devices. If this happens, follow these steps:
a. Turn the switch to OFF, unplug the kettle, and wait for about 20 minutes for the element to cool down.
b. Refill the kettle and use it as normal to check if it functions correctly.
7. To clean the anti-scale mesh filter, unplug the kettle and allow it to cool. The mesh filter can be removed by pressing on the filter tab visible through the kettle opening. Rinse the filter under running water and brush it with a soft brush, such as an old, clean toothbrush.
