To install the Cerwin Vega H740 2-Way Coaxial Speakers, follow these steps:
1. Selecting a Location: If your vehicle has existing factory locations for speakers, it is recommended to replace them with the same size speakers. If there are no factory speaker locations, take the time to select the best locations possible, ensuring the speakers are equal distance from your ears for optimal sound quality.
2. Door Mounting (if not using factory locations): Before cutting, remove the panel from the door and check for clearance in the intended installation area. Avoid cutting any structural metal support or braces. It is recommended to use a sound-deadening mat on the door "skin" for better sound quality.
3. Rear Deck Mounting: There are two primary methods for mounting speakers in the rear deck - top mounting and bottom mounting. Top mounting requires dropping the speakers in through the deck, while bottom mounting secures the speakers from underneath. Ensure a good seal around the frame for the best performance.
4. Running New Wiring: In most cases, you can use the factory-supplied wiring for the new speakers. However, if new wires need to be run, use precautions such as using a grommet when running wires through metal to prevent damage. Never run wire through bare metal to avoid damage to the source unit, amplifier, or speakers.
5. Tweeter Installation: When flush or surface mounting tweeters, ensure the desired location can accommodate the hole sizes and depth required. The tweeter can also be surface mounted atop the dash, door, or rear deck. Follow the provided instructions for mounting the tweeter and connecting the wires.
6. Crossover Installation: Install the passive crossovers in a well-ventilated area whenever possible. If installing in the doors, install them behind the door panel instead of inside the door itself to avoid water damage. Connect the input side labeled "AMP" of each passive crossover to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. Connect the middle terminals labeled "MID" to the midrange speaker and the end terminals labeled "TWT" to the tweeter, observing correct polarity.
