According to the user manual of the Health O Meter 499KL Digital Scale, here is the procedure to calibrate the scale:
1. Ensure that the scale is placed on a hard, flat, and level surface.
2. Press the "ON/OFF" button to turn on the scale.
3. Wait for the scale to display "0.0" or "0.00" on the screen.
4. Press and hold the "UNIT" button for approximately 5 seconds until the display shows "CAL".
5. Release the "UNIT" button, and the scale will display "CAL" followed by a number.
6. Place a known weight on the scale. The weight should be within the scale's capacity and should be a weight that you know the exact value of.
7. Wait for the scale to stabilize and display the weight of the known weight.
8. Press the "UNIT" button to confirm the calibration. The scale will display "PASS" if the calibration is successful.
9. Remove the known weight from the scale.
10. The scale is now calibrated and ready for use.
Note: It is recommended to calibrate the scale periodically, especially if you notice any inconsistencies or inaccuracies in the measurements. The user manual also provides additional information on troubleshooting and maintenance of the scale.
