To install the Polk Audio 70-RT 3-Way In-Ceiling Speaker, follow these steps:
1. Take inventory: Make sure you have all the components, including the in-ceiling loudspeaker, sheer-grille, mounting template, owner's manual, and registration card.
2. Prepare the wall or ceiling surface: If the surface is heavily textured, such as stucco or popcorn finish, sand and smooth the area around the speaker cutout to ensure proper seating of the speaker and grille.
3. Trace and cut the hole: Use the provided template to mark the location of the installation. Then, use a keyhole saw, utility knife, or appropriate tool to cut the hole in the wall or ceiling.
4. Wire the speaker: Use wire that meets building and fire codes. Refer to the wire recommendations in the user guide based on the length of the wire run. Wiring is best performed by an experienced professional.
5. Install the speaker: Place the speaker into the cutout hole and secure it using the provided screws. Be aware of any concealed studs, electrical wiring, or plumbing in the wall or ceiling.
6. Optional security eyebolt: If desired, use the eyebolt on the back of the speaker for additional installation security, following standard building code procedures.
7. Paint the sheer-grille (optional): If you want to paint the sheer-grille to match your ceiling color, follow the specific painting procedure outlined in the user guide. Use spray paint and apply thin, even coats, rotating the grille 90 degrees between each coat.
8. Room environment controls: The user guide provides information on the Room Switch and Wall Distance Switch, which can be adjusted to optimize the speaker's performance based on the room's characteristics.
