The Tascam Portacapture X8 offers a preset level setting that uses high-end dual A/D converters and recording technology with 32-bit floating point resolution to provide a broad dynamic range. This allows you to capture recordings with pristine audio quality. To set the levels on the X8, follow these steps:
1. Power on the X8 and navigate to the Launcher on the color touch screen.
2. Choose the audio parameters that are appropriate for your application. These presets are designed to make it easier for you to focus on the recording itself.
3. If you prefer to make all the settings yourself, you can use the MANUAL app. This app gives you full control over the settings, including a Recording Guide that walks you through the necessary settings panels.
4. Adjust the levels according to your preference. The X8 allows you to raise the level when modifying the audio data without sacrificing the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N).
5. After recording, the stereo mix file's level can be automatically aligned using the built-in normalize function.
