To connect external microphones to the Zoom F3 Professional Field Recorder, you can use the XLR/TRS combo inputs located on the device. These inputs support both XLR and 1/4" TRS connectors, allowing you to connect a wide range of microphones.
Here are the steps to connect external microphones:
1. Identify the type of connector your microphone uses. If it has an XLR connector, proceed to step 2. If it has a 1/4" TRS connector, skip to step 3.
2. For XLR microphones:
a. Make sure the recorder is turned off.
b. Plug the XLR connector of your microphone into one of the XLR/TRS combo inputs on the recorder. The connectors are labeled as Input 1 and Input 2.
c. If you are using a condenser microphone that requires phantom power, make sure to enable phantom power for the respective input. You can do this by pressing the MENU button, navigating to the INPUTS menu, selecting the desired input, and enabling phantom power.
d. Adjust the input gain for the connected microphone using the dedicated gain control xxxx for the respective input.
3. For 1/4" TRS microphones:
a. Make sure the recorder is turned off.
b. Plug the 1/4" TRS connector of your microphone into one of the XLR/TRS combo inputs on the recorder. The connectors are labeled as Input 1 and Input 2.
c. If your microphone requires phantom power, you will need an external phantom power supply as the recorder does not provide phantom power for TRS inputs.
d. Adjust the input gain for the connected microphone using the dedicated gain control xxxx for the respective input.
Once you have connected your external microphone(s), you can start recording by pressing the record button on the recorder. Make sure to monitor the audio levels using the built-in meters and adjust the gain accordingly to avoid distortion or clipping.
