To install the Rockford Fosgate T16-S 6 Series Component Speaker System, follow these steps:
1. Before beginning the installation, disconnect the negative lead from the battery to prevent damage to the unit and ensure safety.
2. Determine where you want to mount the speakers. Make sure the mounting location is large enough and deep enough for the speakers to fit properly. If mounting in a door, operate all functions (windows, locks, etc.) to ensure there are no obstructions.
3. Use the specification chart in the manual to determine the proper diameter hole to cut for your speaker model. Cutting and mounting templates can be found on the Rockford Fosgate website.
4. Mark the locations for the mounting screws and drill the holes using a 1/8" bit.
5. Feed the speaker wires through the cutout and connect them to the speaker terminals, observing proper polarity. The positive terminal is indicated with a "+" symbol.
6. Fit the trim ring over the speaker and mount it into place using four screws. Tighten the screws until the speaker is snug, but be careful not to over tighten them.
7. For the tweeter, determine the mounting location and ensure it is deep enough for the speaker to fit. Mark the location for the mounting hole and drill it using a standard 1.75 inch (45mm) hole saw.
8. Secure the inner cup of the tweeter from the front of the door panel to the outer cup from the back of the door panel using a single center xxxx . Tighten the xxxx until balanced pressure is applied to both faces of the mounting surface.
9. Feed the speaker wires through the cutout and connect them to the speaker terminals, observing proper polarity. The positive lead wire is indicated with a red wire "+" and a black wire "-".
10. Snap the tweeter into place and secure it with a snap-on trim ring. The protective grille on the tweeter is non-removable and an integral part of the design.
11. Once the speakers are installed, you can proceed with the wiring. Refer to the wiring diagrams provided in the manual for proper connection. Be sure to maintain speaker polarity.
12. The manual also provides information on the various switches and settings on the component crossover, such as the tweeter ON/OFF axis switch and the tweeter attenuation switch. Set these switches according to your installation requirements.
