To mount the Garmin VHF 315 Modular with Hailer & GPS device, follow these steps:
1. Select a suitable mounting location that is not exposed to extreme temperatures or conditions.
2. Ensure the device will not be submerged and has adequate ventilation.
3. Use the provided tools, including a drill and appropriate drill bits, to prepare the mounting surface.
4. Drill pilot holes for the device's corners and loosely fasten it to the surface.
5. Examine the other three pilot-hole marks and mark new locations if necessary.
6. Remove the device and drill the appropriate pilot holes for the remaining marks.
7. Securely fasten the device to the mounting location.
For mounting the optional active speaker, follow these additional steps:
1. Select a suitable mounting location that is not exposed to extreme temperatures or conditions.
2. Ensure the active speaker is installed at least 50 cm (19.6 in.) away from a magnetic compass.
3. Install the active speaker in line with the GHS 11 handset and within 1.2 m (48 in.) of the desired connection location for the handset.
4. Connect the active speaker to the VHF radio using the provided extension cable.
5. Drill a hole for the speaker, ensuring it fits correctly in the cutout.
6. Secure the speaker to the mounting surface using the provided screws.
7. Install the handset connector in the mounting surface, ensuring the cable is long enough to reach the mounting location.
8. Secure the connector to the mounting plate using the provided weather cap and nut.
