To activate the ACR 2350 OLAS TAG KIT beacon in a distress situation, follow these steps:
1. Unclip the antenna latch from the case and rotate the antenna 90 degrees into the upright position. This will expose the ON/OFF button on the face of the beacon.
2. Depress the ON/OFF button for 2 seconds. When activated, the strobe light will flash twice and the red LED will flash once to indicate that the beacon has been activated.
3. The strobe light and infrared (IR) strobe light will continue to flash once every 10 seconds for the entire time the beacon is activated. The red LED will flash approximately once every 5 seconds until the beacon acquires your GPS coordinates.
4. Once the beacon acquires your GPS coordinates, the flashing red light will be replaced by a flashing green light, which will flash approximately once every 5 seconds. This indicates that your beacon has successfully acquired your GPS coordinates and is transmitting them along with your 406 MHz distress signal.
It is important to activate the beacon in an open space with a clear view of the sky to ensure proper GPS reception. Remember to leave the beacon on until rescued, as turning it off may prolong or prevent rescue. Also, repeated activations could be viewed as a hoax.
