Proper installation of PowerBass OE-682 Coaxial Speakers requires experience with mechanical and electrical procedures. 1. Preparing for Installation:
- Ensure you have the necessary tools, including an electric drill, screwdrivers, wire strippers, crimping tool, and needle-nose pliers.
- Wear protective eyewear when using tools.
- Turn off all stereo and electrical devices before starting.
- Disconnect the (-) negative lead from your vehicle's battery.
- Keep the speakers in the package until final installation.
- Check for enough clearance behind the mounting surface before installing the speakers.
- Use grommets when running speaker wires through sheet metal to insulate them from metal edges.
- Check the available mounting depth before installing the speakers.
- Carefully remove factory grills, door panels, and factory speakers.
2. Installation Process:
- Follow the wiring diagram provided in the manual to wire the speakers correctly. The dual voice coil design allows for two different wiring configurations depending on the impedance requirement of your OEM amplifier.
- Both coils must be wired in one of the specified configurations to ensure proper operation of the speaker.
- Mount the speakers using the original factory cutouts if possible. If the cutouts are too big, you can cut a panel of Masonite or MDF to firmly mount the speakers.
- Ensure there are no air leaks between the front and back of the speakers once installed.
- For door installations, check the clearance of the window and roll-up mechanisms to ensure they clear the speaker structure.
