Installing the Polk VT60 in-ceiling speakers is a relatively easy process. Here are the step-by-step instructions:
1. Gather all the tools and materials needed for the installation, including speaker cable, mounting template, connectors, and cleaning materials.
2. Plan where you want to run the speaker cable. Consider the length of the cable run and the gauge of wire needed based on the length (refer to the user manual for wire sizing guidelines).
3. Check for any obstacles in the walls or ceilings, such as electrical wiring, pipes, or structural members. Use a stud finder to locate studs and avoid cutting into them.
4. Tape the supplied templates to the wall or ceiling where you want to install the speakers. Trace the edge of the template with a pencil.
5. Use a sheetrock saw to cut along the traced lines and create the openings for the speakers. Be careful not to cut any electrical wiring or pipes.
6. Run the speaker cable through the walls or ceilings, following the planned routes. Separate the speaker cables from AC wiring and cross AC wires at a 90-degree angle when necessary.
7. Strip the speaker cables back about 3/4" and insert the pair into the input on the back of each speaker.
8. Dry-fit the speakers into the openings to ensure they fit properly. Adjust the speakers to align with the walls or ceiling.
9. Install insulation into the wall cavity behind each speaker for additional acoustic performance.
10. Use a screwdriver to tighten the dog-clamps on the speakers, securing them to the sheetrock. Be careful not to over tighten and damage the sheetrock.
11. Install the grilles onto the speakers.
