To perform a self-test on the McMurdo FAST FIND 220 Personal Locator Beacon, follow these steps:
1. Press the TEST button on the beacon for 3 seconds and release it. The indicator light will flash once after release.
2. After a few seconds, there will be one short flash for 121.5 MHz homing signal transmission and one long flash for 406 MHz test signal transmission.
3. At the end of the test, there will be a sequence of flashes.
4. The PLB will switch off after the test is completed.
It is important to note that the self-test should only be performed in the first five minutes of the hour. Also, make sure to press the TEST button firmly, and if necessary, use a blunt object like a pencil to activate it.
