To connect the Cerwin-Vega XLS-12S Powered Subwoofer to your audio/video system, follow these steps:
1. Determine the type of connection you will use: LFE input, line level input, or speaker level input. Choose one option only for the hookup.
2. LFE INPUT: If your receiver/preamp/processor has a dedicated LFE or subwoofer OUT, use the LFE input. Connect the LFE output of your receiver to the LFE input of the subwoofer using an appropriate cable. Set the receiver's crossover to 150 Hz.
3. LINE LEVEL INPUT: If you are using a stereo low-level input, connect the "LINE-OUT", "MAIN-OUT", or "PREAMP-OUT" of your receiver/preamp/processor to the line level input of the subwoofer using a dual RCA patch cord (not supplied). Set the receiver's crossover to 150 Hz.
4. SPEAKER LEVEL INPUT: If line level connections are not available from your A/V receiver/preamp/processor, use the speaker level inputs. Connect the left and right speaker-level outputs of your receiver to the left and right speaker-level inputs of the subwoofer using high-quality speaker wire (16-gauge or heavier). Set the front left and right speaker settings to large or full range.
5. SPEAKER LEVEL OUTPUT: If you want to loop the signal to the left and right main speakers, use the speaker level output. Connect the left and right speaker level outputs of the subwoofer to the left and right main speakers.
6. Adjust the volume control on the subwoofer to balance the output with the main speaker output.
7. Use the crossover frequency control to adjust the upper limit of the subwoofer's frequency response. The subwoofer's response will begin rolling off above the set frequency. Note that the crossover control does not function when using the LFE input.
8. Use the phase switch to compensate for the subwoofer's location relative to the main speakers. Set the switch to "180" and listen to the mid-bass output at the listening position. If it sounds weak, set the switch back to "0".
9. Make sure the power switch is turned on and the power LED indicator glows green when an audio signal is present.
10. If needed, select the appropriate voltage for your subwoofer using the voltage selection switch. Refer to qualified service personnel for assistance with voltage selection.
