To connect the Cerwin-Vega XLS-15S subwoofer to your audio/video system, you have a few options depending on the outputs available on your A/V receiver. Here are the step-by-step instructions for each connection method:
1. LFE INPUT (recommended for dedicated subwoofer output):
- Use a mono "low frequency effects" (LFE) cable to connect the LFE output of your A/V receiver to the LFE input on the XLS-15S subwoofer.
- Refer to your receiver's owner's manual for specific instructions on how to enable the LFE output and set the crossover frequency to 150 Hz.
2. LINE LEVEL INPUT:
- Use a dual RCA patch cord (not supplied) to connect the line-level output (such as "LINE-OUT" or "MAIN-OUT") of your A/V receiver to the line-level input on the XLS-15S subwoofer.
- Refer to your receiver's owner's manual for specific instructions on how to set the crossover frequency to 150 Hz.
3. SPEAKER LEVEL INPUT:
- If your A/V receiver does not have line-level outputs, you can use the speaker-level inputs on the XLS-15S subwoofer.
- Use high-quality speaker wire (16-gauge or heavier) to connect the left and right speaker-level outputs of your A/V receiver to the corresponding speaker-level inputs on the XLS-15S subwoofer.
- Set the front left and right speaker settings on your receiver to "large" or "full range" to ensure that the low-frequency signals are sent to the subwoofer.
4. SPEAKER LEVEL OUTPUT:
- The XLS-15S subwoofer has a speaker-level output that allows you to loop the signal to the left and right main speakers.
- Connect the speaker-level outputs on the XLS-15S subwoofer to the corresponding inputs on your main speakers using high-quality speaker wire.
Remember to make sure the subwoofer is unplugged and the power switch is turned "OFF" before starting the installation. Also, refer to the owner's manual provided by your receiver/preamp/processor manufacturer for any additional hook-up connections or settings.
Note: The crossover frequency control on the XLS-15S subwoofer allows you to adjust the upper limit of the subwoofer's frequency response. The crossover control does not function when the LFE input is used.
