To install the Infinity SM2 Underseat Subwoofer with Remote Control, follow these steps:
1. Choose a mounting location: Select a location that does not interfere with cargo loading, folding rear seats, or trunk lid opening/closing. The front or rear corner of the trunk or luggage compartment is often the best location for optimal sonic reproduction.
2. Mount the subwoofer: Ensure that the mounting screws do not puncture any wiring harnesses, brake or fuel lines, or the vehicle's fuel tank. Use caution when mounting to avoid any interference with the safe operation of the vehicle.
3. Power connections: If you are using only the line-level (RCA) inputs, connect the remote wire from the subwoofer to the system's head unit to enable the subwoofer to turn on and off with the system. If you are using the speaker-level outputs from your head unit, you do not need to connect the remote output. The subwoofer's speaker-level inputs will sense voltage on the speaker wires and turn itself on.
4. Input connections: Connect the subwoofer output from the source unit to either the left or right line-level input. If your source unit does not have a dedicated subwoofer output, you can connect the rear left/right outputs to the subwoofer's left and right inputs. If your source unit does not have line-level outputs, use the included speaker-level input harness to connect the subwoofer to the source unit's speaker outputs.
5. Tuning the subwoofer: The subwoofer provides several controls for sonic integration. Here is a brief overview of each control:
- Phase Switch: Reverses the phase of the subwoofer's output with respect to its input. Adjust to achieve the desired upper bass reproduction.
- Level Control: Adjusts the input sensitivity of the subwoofer to balance its volume with the rest of the system.
- Crossover Control: Adjusts the amount of upper bass and midbass information in the subwoofer's output. Fine-tune for a smooth transition from the subwoofer to the rest of the system's speakers.
- Bass Boost Control: Adjusts the subwoofer's response to correct any peaks or dips in its output. Set according to personal taste.
- Audio Sense Switch: If using the high-level inputs, set to "On" to allow the subwoofer to turn on when the rest of the audio system turns on.
- Input Load Switch: Set to "High" for the lowest noise in most applications. Set to "Low" in some cases for better results, such as when using the radio's power fader.
6. Adjustment sequence: Start with the Level control set to minimum, Phase switch set to "0," and Crossover and Bass Boost controls at the 3 o'clock position. Adjust each control following the recommended steps in the manual, making adjustments based on personal preference and system integration.
