To install the ARCHITECH SC-620F 6.5" 2-Way Kevlar Series Frameless In-Ceiling/Wall Loudspeakers, follow these steps:
1. Determine the speaker positions: Decide where you want to install the speakers for optimal sound quality and ease of installation. The speakers should be positioned between 18 and 36 inches from an adjacent wall or surface, measured from the center of the hole, to enhance bass. Avoid placing the speakers closer than 12 inches to the next wall and avoid putting them at the same distance from both sides of a corner.
2. Check for hidden impediments: Before installation, check for any hidden wiring, plumbing, heating ducts, or other obstacles in the ceiling or wall area where you plan to install the speakers. If possible, access the ceiling through an attic crawl space for easier installation.
3. Cut the speaker holes: Use a "stud finder" to locate the joists or studs in the ceiling or wall. Mark the desired speaker hole locations and cut the holes accordingly. It is recommended to keep the speaker holes' edges at least 3/4" (19mm) away from joists or studs to allow room for the toggle clamps.
4. Wiring: Use high-quality stereo cable for optimal performance. For runs longer than 50 feet, use double-insulated cable with at least 16 gauge. This type of speaker cable is often referred to as "jacketed" and is rated CL-2 or CL-3. Avoid using single-insulated "zip cord" as it is less reliable. Leave enough length on the cable to reach the electronics and provide about 2-12 feet (0.8m) of free space at the speaker cut-out.
5. Mount the speakers: Attach the speakers to the ceiling or wall using the load-balancing toggle mounting system provided. Ensure a secure and flush fit.
6. Connect the speakers: Connect the speaker cables to the binding posts on the back of each speaker. Make sure the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals are correctly matched.
7. Paint the grill (optional): The frameless grill's mounting surface can be painted to match your ceiling or wall color for a seamless look.
8. Test and enjoy: Once the installation is complete, connect the speakers to an external amplifier using speaker cables. Power on the amplifier and test the sound output from the ARCHITECH SC-620F speakers.
