To set up Echo Connect with your Alexa-enabled device, follow these steps:
1. Plug in Echo Connect: Connect the micro-USB cable and 9W adapter into Echo Connect and then into a power outlet. Ensure you use the items included in the original Echo Connect package for optimal performance. A blue light ring will start spinning around the top. In about a minute, the light ring will change to orange, indicating that Echo Connect is ready for setup.
2. Download the Alexa App: Download the free Amazon Alexa app to your iOS (9.0 or higher) or Android (5.0 or higher) device. You can start the download process in your mobile browser at http://alexa.amazon.com. If the setup process doesn't automatically start, go to Settings > Set up a new device. During setup, you will need to connect Echo Connect to the internet, so make sure you have your Wi-Fi password handy.
3. Connect Echo Connect to Wi-Fi: Open the Alexa app and sign in with your Amazon account. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect Echo Connect to your Wi-Fi network. Once connected, Echo Connect will automatically update its software, which may take a few minutes.
4. Connect Echo Connect to Your Phone Line: Connect the included telephone cable from the back of Echo Connect to your home phone jack or VoIP adapter. Make sure your home phone service is active and working properly.
5. Set Up Calling and Messaging: Open the Alexa app and go to the Communicate tab. Follow the prompts to verify your phone number and import your contacts. You can also add new contacts on alexa.amazon.com. Alexa will identify incoming calls from people on your contact list.
6. Make Calls with Echo Connect: To make a call, simply say "Alexa, call [contact name]." Echo Connect will use your home phone service to place the call. You can also use the Alexa app to make calls by selecting a contact and tapping the phone icon.
Note: Echo Connect is compatible with first- and second-generation Echo and Echo Dot, Echo Plus, Echo Show, and Echo Spot. Your home phone service can be either a standard landline or a VoIP provider.
