To connect the Polk Audio S55 Signature Floor Standing Speaker to your audio system, follow these steps:
1. Wire Preparation: Strip 1/2" (12.7mm) of insulation from each of the two conductors of the wire to expose the bare metal. Twist each of the individual conductors into single unfrayed strands.
2. Speaker Terminals: The S55 speaker has two terminals on the rear - one red (+) and one black (-). Make sure to connect the wire from the positive (+) terminal of your amplifier or receiver to the red (+) terminal on the speaker, and the wire from the negative (-) terminal of your amplifier or receiver to the black (-) terminal on the speaker. Most wire has some indicator (such as color-coding, ribbing, or writing) on one of the two conductors to help you maintain consistency.
3. Binding Posts: To connect the wire to the binding post, unscrew the binding post cap and insert the bare wire into the hole near the base of the binding post. Do not insert the insulated part of the wire into the hole. Tighten the binding post cap until it seats firmly with the wire, but do not over tighten.
4. Connectors: You have several options when choosing connectors for your speaker wires, such as banana plugs, spade lugs, or bare wire. Choose the connector type that suits your preference. If using banana plugs, carefully pry out the binding post plugs to expose the banana plug holes. The binding posts can accept dual banana plugs.
5. Amplifier/Receiver Settings: Set the speakers to "small" in your receiver's Bass Management Settings. This ensures proper bass distribution to the speakers. If you have tower speakers, set them to "large."
Following these steps will allow you to properly connect the Polk Audio S55 Signature Floor Standing Speaker to your audio system. For more detailed instructions and illustrations, refer to the user manual provided with the speaker.
