To install the Theater Solutions TSS8A Home Theater Deluxe in Ceiling 8" Angled Speaker, follow these steps:
1. Locate a suitable installation location: For ceiling installations, place the speakers about 1/3rd of the distance from the corner of the room to the center of the wall. Avoid placing the speakers less than two feet away from the corners of the room. For wall installations, mount the speakers close to or slightly above the listener's ear level, and approximately the same distance apart as the distance to the listening area. Again, avoid placing the speakers less than two feet away from the corners of the room.
2. Check for obstructions: Before drilling or cutting into the ceiling, ensure there are no electrical wires, water pipes, heating ducts, or any other obstructions in the planned installation area. Use a stud finder to locate the positions of joints and rafters. Maintain a 2" clearance from the outside of the cutout hole from joints and rafters.
3. Prepare the installation area: Drill a 1/4" pilot hole in the center of the area where you plan to mount the speaker. Insert a wire (such as a coat hanger) into the pilot hole to check for any obstructions that may interfere with the installation. If necessary, choose another location and patch the pilot hole.
4. Cut the hole: Use the supplied cutout template and masking tape to temporarily place the template on the ceiling, centered over the pilot hole. Draw a circle around the inside edge of the template. Use a drywall saw or keyhole saw to carefully remove the material inside the circle. Confirm that the speaker easily fits in the hole without any gaps.
5. Speaker hookup: The speaker terminals can accommodate any speaker wire up to 12-gauge. Split the two conductors of the speaker wire apart about 3 inches to form a "Y." Strip about 1/2 inch of insulation from each wire. Connect the wire attached to the positive terminal on the speaker (marked [+1 or colored red) to the positive terminal on the receiver. Similarly, connect the wire attached to the negative terminal (marked (-1 or colored black) to the negative terminal on the receiver. Ensure correct polarity for proper performance.
6. Final installation: Use the supplied grille remover to remove the grille from the speaker. Turn the mounting feet inward to clear the cutout hole. Insert the speaker into the hole and tighten the installation screws. The mounting feet will rotate outward to clamp around the drywall, securing the speaker in place. Do not overtighten the mounting feet. Apply the supplied grille adhesive around the grille and gently push the grille onto the speaker frame to secure it.
