To change the blade on the SKIL 5280 7-1/4 Inch Circular Saw, follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the plug from the power source to ensure safety during the blade replacement process.
2. Press the lock button on the saw and turn the wrench until the lock button engages. This will lock the saw shaft in place.
3. While continuing to depress the lock button, turn the wrench counter-clockwise to remove the blade stud and outer washer.
4. Make sure the saw teeth and arrow on the new blade point in the same direction as the arrow on the lower guard.
5. Slide the new blade through the slot in the foot and mount it against the inner washer on the shaft. Ensure that the large diameter of the inner and outer washers lay flush against the blade.
6. Reinstall the outer washer. First, tighten the blade stud finger tight, then tighten it an additional 1/8 turn (45 degrees) with the wrench provided. Do not over-tighten the blade stud.
7. The SKIL 5280 is equipped with a Vari-Torque clutch, which provides a clutching action to reduce the risk of kickback. If excessive blade slippage occurs during use, tighten the blade stud a fraction of a turn more (less than 1/8 turn). However, over-tightening the blade stud can nullify the effectiveness of the clutch.
It is important to follow these steps carefully to ensure proper blade installation and safe operation of the circular saw. For more detailed instructions and safety information, refer to the SKIL 5280 7-1/4 Inch Circular Saw Owner's Manual.
