1. Determine the thickness of the ice on your pond. If the ice is more than 2 inches thick, you will need to drill a hole with an ice auger before using the deicer. If the ice is only 1 or 2 inches thick, you can place the deicer directly on the ice.
2. Plug in the Thermo-Pond 3.0 deicer and float it in your pond with the dome side facing up. Make sure the deicer is within arm's reach of the shore to avoid walking on thin ice.
3. If you need to drill a hole, use an ice auger to create a hole in the ice that is large enough for the deicer to fit through.
4. If the ice is only 1 or 2 inches thick, place the deicer on the ice and it will melt its way through. Do not chop through the ice in smaller ponds as the shock waves can damage or kill your fish.
5. The Thermo-Pond 3.0 deicer is thermostatically controlled, meaning it will automatically turn on when the water temperature drops to around 35°F and off when it rises above 45°F. This helps save energy and ensures the deicer only operates when necessary.
6. It is recommended to remove the deicer during warmer months when the pond is not at risk of freezing. Wipe down the deicer with a damp cloth before storing it in a clean, dry place.
