To install the K&H Pet Products 100213385 Thermo-Pond Deicer, follow these steps:
1. If your pond is already frozen over, use an ice auger to drill a hole in the ice. Avoid chopping through the ice as it can harm your fish. Alternatively, you can place a large pan or bucket with water on the surface of the ice and place the deicer in the container.
2. Once you have a hole in the ice or the deicer is in the container, run the power cord to a properly grounded outdoor GFCI outlet. Ensure that the outlet is a Ground Fault Current Interrupter (GFCI) outlet.
3. If using the deicer as a floating unit, simply extend the cord, place the heater into your pond in the desired location, and plug it into the outdoor GFCI outlet.
4. If using the deicer as a submerged unit, make sure the heating element is fully submerged in water. Do not allow the heating element to be exposed to the air when plugged in.
5. The Thermo-Pond Deicer will automatically turn on and off as the surrounding water temperature falls and rises, keeping an ice-free area in your pond to assist in the removal of toxic gas build-up.
