To change the magnifying power on the Educational Insights El-5350 Microscope, follow these steps:
1. Start by placing a prepared sample slide on the stage of the microscope, securing it under the two clips.
2. Look for the nosepiece, which is the rotating part of the microscope that holds the objective lenses.
3. Slide the tab on the nosepiece until you hear a click. This will change the magnifying power.
4. Start at the lowest power and work your way upward for optimal viewing. The microscope offers magnifying powers of 30x, 100x, and 400x.
5. After selecting the desired magnification, turn the focusing xxxx until the objective lens is almost touching the slide. Be careful not to let the lens touch the slide to avoid damage.
6. Look through the eyepiece and slowly turn the focusing xxxx back until you see the sample clearly.
Remember, the top lamp (dissecting microscope) is better for viewing textured items, while the bottom lamp (light microscope) is used for observing samples with light shining from the bottom. The included activity journal provides more information on using both lamps for different purposes.
