To test a GFCI protected outlet using the Sperry Instruments HGT6520 GFCI Outlet Tester, follow these steps:
1. Plug the tester into the GFCI protected outlet.
2. Check the LED indicators on the tester to verify that the power is on and that the outlet is wired properly. Only a single LED should illuminate.
3. Press the GFCI test button on the tester.
4. If the circuit is wired properly, the main GFCI outlet should trip and power to the circuit will be cut off. This is indicated by the LED lights on the tester going off.
5. If the LED lights on the tester do not go off, it suggests a wiring problem with either an operable GFCI or proper wiring with a faulty GFCI. In this case, consult with an electrician to check the condition of the wiring and GFCI.
