To test an electrical outlet using the Klein Tools ET45 Voltage Tester, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that the tester is functioning properly by testing it on a known live circuit. If the tester indicates voltage correctly, it is operational.
2. Insert the test leads into the lead holders on the back of the tester. The lead holders are spaced correctly to test tamper-resistant US-style outlets.
3. Press the test leads against the system under test to measure AC or DC voltage. The voltage level indicators on the tester will light up, indicating the magnitude of the voltage present.
4. Observe the LED display and listen for the audible alert. If voltage is detected, the LED display will show the voltage level and the audible alert will sound.
Note: Do not attempt to measure voltages in excess of 240V AC or 330V DC, as these voltages will illuminate the 240V AC / 330V DC indicator. Always adhere to local and national safety codes and use personal protective equipment when working with hazardous live conductors.
