To measure your body temperature using the iHealth PT3 Forehead Thermometer, follow these steps:
1. Install the batteries: Insert two AAA batteries into the battery compartment on the back of the device. Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly.
2. Prepare for measurement: Ensure that the forehead is free from sweat, cosmetics, dirt, or grease. The patient should not drink, eat, or be physically active before taking a reading. Wait for at least 30 minutes before measuring.
3. Position the thermometer: Aim the thermometer probe at the center of the forehead, keeping the probe about 1.18 inches (3 cm) away from the forehead. The optimal distance is about the width of an adult's index finger. Do not touch the forehead with the probe.
4. Take the measurement: Gently press the measurement button to start the measurement. The device will vibrate once a reading is obtained. The reading will be displayed on the screen, which takes about 1 second. If the measurement fails, the screen will display " - - - °F " instead.
5. Interpret the measurement: Body temperature varies from person to person and fluctuates throughout the day. It is important to know your normal, healthy forehead temperature to accurately determine if you have a fever. A rise over your reference body temperature of 1.8°F/1°C or more is generally an indication of fever.
Note: It is recommended that adults take the measurement for babies and children. Temperature readings may differ according to skin tone and measurement distance.
