To set up the ASUS RT-AC66U-B1 router for the first time, follow these steps:
1. Unplug and disconnect the wires/cables from your existing modem setup and release your computer's outmoded IP address.
- Unplug the AC adapter from the power outlet and disconnect it from your cable/ADSL modem.
- Disconnect the network cable from your cable/ADSL modem.
- Reboot your computer (recommended).
2. Set up your wireless environment.
- Insert your wireless router's AC adapter into the DC-IN port and plug it into a power outlet.
- Using the bundled network cable, connect your computer to your wireless router's LAN port.
- Using another network cable, connect your modem to your wireless router's WAN port.
- Insert your modem's AC adapter into the DC-IN port and plug it into a power outlet.
3. Disable some settings on your computer.
- Disable the proxy server, if enabled.
- Set the TCP/IP settings to automatically obtain an IP address.
- Disable the dial-up connection, if enabled.
4. Launch your web browser and enter "http://router.asus.com" to access the router's web graphics user interface (web GUI).
5. Follow the Quick Internet Setup (QIS) Wizard to configure your wireless settings.
- The QIS feature automatically detects your ISP connection type (Dynamic IP, PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP, or Static IP) and prompts you to enter the necessary information.
- Assign a network name (SSID) and security key for your 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless connections.
- Review and confirm your Internet and wireless settings.
6. Once the setup is complete, you can access the router's web GUI to further customize settings or manage your network.
