To install the Leviton SGI65-W Two-Way In-Wall Loudspeaker, follow these steps:
1. Start by determining the location for the speakers and ensure that you have the necessary tools and supplies mentioned in the manual.
2. Use a stud locator to locate the studs in the area where you want to mount the speakers. Use a level to ensure straightness.
3. Trace the inside of the mounting template provided with a pencil on the wall.
4. Carefully drill a 1" (2.5 cm) hole in the center of the traced cutout. Make sure there are no existing household cables, pipes, or ducts in the working area.
5. Use a utility knife or keyhole saw to cut out the center area following the traced lines.
6. Remove the center area by using the 1" (2.5 cm) hole as an access point.
7. Remove the speaker grille by loosening it with a small flat-headed screwdriver.
8. Temporarily place the speaker in the open area to ensure a proper fit.
9. Repeat steps 2-8 for any additional speakers.
10. Decide where your receiver will be placed and drill a 1" (2.5 cm) hole in the wall at that location.
11. Measure the distance from the nearest corner of the room to the center of the cutout and the 1" (2.5 cm) hole where your receiver is located.
12. With these measurements and UL rated speaker wire, go to the attic.
13. Locate the corner of the room where your measurement for Step 11 was taken from. Measure the exact distance in the correct direction of your cutout and mark it with a pencil.
14. Drill a 1" (2.5 cm) hole at the marked location.
15. Insert the wire through the hole and feed it until the wire is visible through the cutout. Leave about 2 feet (0.5 m) extending through the cutout.
16. Repeat steps 13-15 for the measurement taken for Step 12.
17. Repeat steps 13-16 for each speaker.
18. Strip 1/2" (1.2 cm) of insulation off the wire and tightly twist the wire strands.
19. Attach the speaker wire to the Red/Black speaker terminals. Red = Positive, Black = Negative.
20. Loosely attach the mounting bracket to the speaker with the screws provided.
21. Insert the bottom portion of the speaker bracket behind the wall/ceiling, then insert the top portion.
22. Tighten all screws evenly and firmly.
23. Place the rubber adhesive strips on the inner portion of the speaker frame. Insert the speaker grille. The rubber strips will ensure a secure fit.
24. Repeat steps 18-23 for each speaker.
25. Strip 1/2" (1.2 cm) of insulation off each wire and tightly twist the wire strands.
26. Connect the wires to the Red/Black speaker terminals on your receiver. Red = Positive, Black = Negative.
27. Your installation is now complete.
