To install the PowerMax PM3 AC to DC Converter Charger, please follow the instructions provided in the installation manual. Here is a step-by-step guide:
1. Safety Precautions:
- Read all instructions before installation and operation.
- Disconnect the battery POS (+) wire before connecting the Converter/Charger to any vehicle/device wiring.
- Avoid storing electrical devices in compartments with flammable liquids.
- Ensure proper ventilation and avoid foreign contaminants such as dirt, metal particles, or moisture.
2. Mounting:
- Choose a mounting location on any interior surface, out of direct weather.
- Ensure the surface is solid and can hold the weight of the Converter/Charger during vehicle operation.
- Use the provided flanges with holes for ease of mounting using standard fasteners.
- Allow a minimum of 1" free air space at each end of the unit for proper cooling.
3. Electrical Requirements:
- Locate a 120 VAC receptacle within 36 inches of the Converter/Charger for power supply.
- Consider the proximity to the batteries and the 12-volt DC distribution panel.
4. Electrical Connections:
- Tighten all connections securely to prevent overheating.
- Use the recommended terminal torque values mentioned on the unit labels.
- Connect the Converter/Charger bonding lug to the vehicle/device chassis using an 8 AWG minimum size copper wire.
- Connect the attached power cord of the Converter/Charger firmly to the 120 VAC receptacle.
- Use a minimum of 8 AWG size copper wire for the 12 VDC wiring.
- Connect the RV 12 VDC positive (+) wire to the terminal marked "+" or "POS" and the negative (-) wire to the terminal marked "-" or "NEG".
- The 12 VDC output wiring does not require over-current protection as the Converter/Charger limits current output. However, ensure compliance with the appropriate NEC code for all electrical connections.
5. Testing:
- Disconnect all loads and battery connections from the Converter/Charger.
- Attach a multimeter instrument between the positive and negative terminals of the Converter/Charger.
- Energize the 120 VAC converter circuit and test for proper output power using the multimeter.
- The voltage should read 14.6 +/- 0.2 VDC.
- Recheck the voltage with 12 VDC load connections, which should remain approximately the same as at no load.
Please note that these are general installation guidelines. For specific instructions and details, refer to the PowerMax PM3 AC to DC Converter Charger Installation Manual.
