Cleaning your Hamilton Beach 40614R Electric Coffee Maker is important to ensure optimal performance and maintain the quality of your coffee. Here are the general cleaning instructions:
1. Unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool before cleaning.
2. Clean the carafe, filter basket, and lid with warm, soapy water. These parts are usually dishwasher-safe as well.
3. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth.
4. To clean the heating well, fill the percolator half-full with hot water. Add a drop of liquid dishwashing detergent and wash the inside of the percolator. Use a scouring pad to clean the inside of the heating unit well. Do not immerse the percolator in water.
5. Rinse all parts thoroughly with water.
6. To remove mineral deposits and buildup, clean the percolator every 15 to 20 cycles or more frequently if you have hard water.
- Fill the percolator with equal parts cold water and white vinegar (six cups each).
- Assemble the percolator with the stem assembly, coffee basket, coffee basket lid, and twist-off lid.
- Plug in the coffee maker and let it go through the perk cycle. When perking has stopped, let it sit for another 15 minutes.
- Unplug and drain the percolator. Let it cool, and then clean it following the steps mentioned above.
