To clean the inside of the coffeemaker, follow these steps:
1. Place an empty carafe on the keep-hot plate.
2. Pour one pint of plain white vinegar into the water reservoir and close the lid.
3. Plug the unit into an electrical outlet.
4. Press the ON/OFF switch to turn on the coffeemaker. After 30 seconds, turn it off. Wait for 30 minutes to allow the vinegar to clean. Then turn it on again. When finished, let it cool.
5. Empty the carafe and rinse it. Pour one carafe of cold tap water into the water reservoir. Place the carafe on the keep-hot plate and close the lid.
6. Press the ON/OFF switch to turn on the coffeemaker. When the brew cycle is complete, empty the carafe. Allow it to cool, then repeat with one more carafe of cold tap water.
7. Wash the carafe and filter basket before making a beverage.
To clean the carafe and filter basket:
1. Wash the carafe in hot, soapy water or on the top rack of a dishwasher. The carafe lid may be removed to aid in cleaning.
2. To remove the carafe lid, push the hinge part of the lid to one side, then gently but firmly twist the lid. The pin will release from the hinge. To replace the lid, put one side of the lid hinge on one of the pins and then snap it onto the other pin.
3. To remove the filter basket, rotate the shower head away from the filter basket, open the lid, and lift it straight up. The filter basket may be washed by hand or on the top rack of a dishwasher.
For cleaning the outside of the coffeemaker, with the coffeemaker unplugged, wipe the outside with a soft cloth and warm, soapy water. Do not use abrasive cleaners, as they may scratch the finish of the product.
