Installation of the On-Q HT5800 In-Ceiling and In-Wall Speakers can be done during new construction or as a retrofit installation. Here are the step-by-step instructions for installing these speakers:
1. Rough-in Installation:
- Determine the desired speaker locations and run 16-gauge, 2-conductor speaker wire from the amplifier or volume control to each speaker location.
- If using the On-Q Speaker Pre-Construction Bracket, follow the detailed instructions provided in IS-0243 for installation.
- If not using the pre-construction brackets, leave 4 to 6 feet of wire at each speaker location. Use a strip of cardboard stapled to the joints/studs with a hole through it as a wire placeholder for the drywall installers.
- After drywall and/or painting is complete, push the wire through the hole, center the template over the hole, mark with a pencil, and cut out the hole with a drywall knife.
2. Trim-out Installation:
- Push the speaker wire through the hole, center the template over the hole, mark with a pencil, and cut out the hole with a drywall knife.
- Hold the speaker with one hand and push in the speaker terminal connectors, then insert the wires. Remove the speaker grill carefully, avoiding pushing on the woofer's cone to prevent damage.
- Make sure to connect the positive wire to the red terminal and the negative wire to the black terminal.
- Use one hand to push the speaker into the cutout, being careful not to push on the woofer's cone. Use the other hand to turn the screws that engage the installation tabs. Tighten the tabs in a cross or X-pattern until snug, but be careful not to over-tighten and damage the speaker.
- If using a cordless drill/screwdriver, it is recommended to turn the screws until almost tight and then finish tightening with a hand screwdriver.
- To securely attach the speaker grill, insert several short strips of grill adhesive evenly around the grill slot before installing the grill cover.
Please note that these are general installation instructions, and it is important to consult the specific installation manual provided with the speakers for any additional details or variations based on your specific setup.
