To set up the AcuRite 06045 Lightning Detection Sensor, please follow these steps:
1. Set the A-B-C Switch: Inside the battery compartment of the sensor, there is an A-B-C switch. Slide the switch to select the desired channel (A, B, or C). Note that if you are using the sensor with a companion product that also has an A-B-C channel, you must select the same letter choice for both the sensor and the companion product for synchronization.
2. Install or Replace Batteries: The sensor requires 4 x AA batteries for operation. AcuRite recommends using high-quality alkaline or lithium batteries for the best performance. Slide off the battery compartment cover, insert the batteries following the polarity diagram, and then replace the cover. Note that in low-temperature conditions below -4ºF / -20ºC, lithium batteries are recommended.
3. Placement for Maximum Accuracy: Proper placement of the sensor is crucial for accurate performance. The sensor should be placed outside to observe outdoor conditions. It is water-resistant but should be placed in an area protected from direct weather elements to extend its life. Hang the sensor using the integrated hanger or string from a suitable location, such as a well-covered tree branch. The best location is 4 to 8 feet above the ground with permanent shade and good air circulation.
4. Wireless Range: The sensor must be within 330 feet (100 meters) of a companion unit (sold separately) for proper wireless communication.
