To set up the AcuRite 06042M Rain Gauge Station, follow these steps:
1. Unpack the contents of the package, including the display with tabletop stand, wireless sensor, rain gauge, and instruction manual.
2. Remove the protective film from the LCD screen of the display by locating the tab and peeling it off.
3. Set the A-B-C switch on the wireless sensor, rain gauge, and display to the same letter (A, B, or C). This ensures that the units synchronize with each other.
4. Install or replace the batteries in the wireless sensor and rain gauge. Use high-quality alkaline batteries for best performance. The sensor may require lithium batteries in low temperature conditions.
5. Slide off the battery compartment cover of the wireless sensor and insert 2 x AA batteries, following the polarity diagram in the compartment. Replace the cover.
6. Separate the rain gauge cover from the base by gently squeezing the tabs and pulling the cover upwards.
7. Remove the battery box from the rain gauge base by squeezing the two tabs on each end together.
8. Remove the cardboard rain gauge stabilizer and insert 2 x AA batteries into the battery compartment of the rain gauge, following the polarity diagram. Securely place the battery box back into the rain gauge base and reattach the cover.
9. Set the A-B-C switch inside the battery compartment of the rain gauge to the same letter as the wireless sensor and display.
10. Set the A-B-C switch inside the battery compartment of the display to the same letter as the wireless sensor and rain gauge.
11. Set the time, date, and units on the display by pressing and releasing the SET button to enter SETUP MODE. Use the ▲ or ▼ buttons to adjust the currently selected item, and press SET to save the adjustments. The preference set order includes rain alarm, time zone, auto DST, clock hour, clock minute, calendar month, calendar date, calendar year, temperature scale, and rainfall units.
12. Install the rain gauge on a flat, level surface outdoors. Ensure it is not placed in a low spot that could become flooded or obstructed by objects above it. Fasten the rain gauge base to a sturdy surface using screws (included).
13. Wait for the rain gauge and wireless sensor to synchronize with the display. This may take a few minutes.
14. Place the display in a dry area free of dirt and dust. It can stand upright on a tabletop or be wall-mounted using the integrated hang hole.
15. Ensure that the display and rain gauge are within 100 ft (30 m) of each other, and the display and wireless sensor are within 330 ft (100 m) of each other for optimal wireless communication.
